March 6, 2010 Community meeting on GreenSpace

Bowmanville Green Space/Park Planning Meeting March 6

download the information flyer

As part of the BCO’s quest to secure permanent green space within our community, the BCO GreenSpace Committee will host a charrette on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Tempel Steel Training Room, 5448 North Wolcott.

This charrette is a collaborative planning process harnessing the talents and energies of our community to create a plan for park development. This brainstorming session will help identify the community’s priorities, suggest potential uses for the open space on Bowmanville Avenue at Bell, and develop potential designs for this space at a conceptual level. The ideas generated at this meeting will help the BCO GreenSpace Committee develop a proposal that will be utilized to acquire support and funding for this project.

We are seeking input from all interested community members. Please join us in our efforts to maintain open space in Bowmanville by participating in this key meeting. If you plan to attend the meeting, please RSVP by email to Kris Neurauter at greenspace@bcochicago.org (this will help us set up chairs in the room and have enough materials for all)

For more information or to join the GreenSpace Committee, please email Greenspace@bcochicago.org or call the BCO Toll Free number at 866-837-1006.  We welcome your input.

Urgent Gateway Garden workers Needed this week!

Please RSVP if you can attend or help in any way.

Thursday 10/8 9:30 until dusk
Friday 10/9 – 9:30 until done
Rain or shine.
Bring shovels, hand trowels, rakes, brooms, wheelbarrows, wagons and watering cans.

Coffee from Pauline’s Restaurant will be served each morning.  Thursday we’ll have Calico Beans for lunch, and would welcome other lunch and refreshment contributions each day.

It’s out of the ordinary for us to request help from our garden volunteers on weekdays, but this is how things have worked out with Greencorps this season, since the plant delivery did not happen before our major installation date last saturday.  We certainly understand that you have work and childcare commitments, but if you have a free day, for the Columbus Day holiday, or any time available during or after your work day, we could sure use your help.  We’ll be planting perennials, bulbs, and shrubs on both days, as the Greencorps crew finishes building the pergola.

The bags were ordered and printed with the “Streets of  Bowmanville” by Jeff Graves.

The reusable fabric bag is green with white print and is sturdy with stitched handles that run the full length of the bag.  It measures 14 inches wide by 15 inches tall and 7.5 inches deep, folds flat or rolls up for storage. Bags will be on sale at all BCO summer events and are available now.

Chappell Preschool Open House April 1 & 24, May 15

Chappell School is beginning to accept pre-enrollment forms for the 2009-10 CPS “Preschool for All” program. Students who will be three before September 1, 2009 are eligible. We are happy to announce a series of open houses to introduce the program to newcomers! Each open house will showcase a different aspect of the CPS “PreSchool For All” program. No appointments are necessary and both parents and potential students, ages 2-4, are invited to attend!

Click here to view a gallery of images from the Chappell preschool.

The first open house will take place on Wednesday, April 1 (11 a.m. – noon). It will be a “Meet and Greet” and students will have the opportunity to explore both Pre-K classrooms while their parents get information about curriculum and registration.

The second open house will take place on Friday, April 24 (9:30-10:30 a.m.). Children are invited to take part in sample activities, including story time, science, arts and crafts and music with Chappell’s Pre-K staff.

The third open house, May 15 (9:30-10:30 a.m.) will focus on music and movement, as well as gross motor activities for children. Parents must remain with students and are encouraged to bring any questions to the teachers at these times. Please share this important information with your friends, neighbors and family members!
